"I have a long-standing passion for traditional music and have played mandolin in several bluegrass and fiddle bands over the past 12 years, including Boiling Oil, Nine Pound Trio, Frog Bridge, Grasse Roots, and Althea Jean. My formative years as a bluegrass musician were in the Deep South where I spent five years pickin’ bluegrass into the wee hours with good friends while earning a Master of Science in Forestry and working as a research ecologist. I returned to my homeland of Northern New York for six years, where I worked as an environmental consultant and a biology instructor. While there I met my rock of a wife, Hilary, who gave birth to our little bundle of joy, Iris, in April 2006. Recently, Hilary accepted a post-doctoral fellowship to study sustainability at the University of Michigan, so we sold our proverbial “Cabin on the Hill” in New York and now find ourselves here in Michigan.
I’ve always been lucky to meet new friends through music and that luck has continued with Aaron, John, and Tony. Playing with Two Hearted is a blast. We share a preference for a healthy mix of traditional bluegrass and jamming and the talent in this band continues to inspire me to improve my own musicianship, making it a truckload of fun."
